HP have two sizes of ink cartridges in the HP 304 range. HP 304 black and colour standard capacity ink cartridges and HP 304XL black and colour high capacity ink cartridges. The HP 304XL have larger sponges so they can hold more ink and print more pages. Original HP 304XL ink cartridges effectively produce twice as many prints than the standard capacity cartridges at a reduced price per page.

Recently HP reduced the size of the ink inside HP 304 ink cartridges.  Reducing the standard black from 3.5ml to 2ml and the colour from 4ml to 2ml.  The XL black was reduced from 8.5ml to 5.5ml and the colour reduced from 8ml to 7ml.  Therefore its more important to buy the XLs over and above the standfard capacity ink cartridges or opt for our refilled ink where you still get the higher volume of ink inside.

  • HP 304 Black - 2ml
  • HP 304 Colour - 2ml
  • HP 304XL Black - 5.5ml
  • HP 304XL Colour - 7ml

Unfortunately if you are buying HP 304XL remanufactured or refilled ink cartridges many sellers on eBay and Amazon are dishonest and are using standard capacity ink cartridges and putting an XL sticker over the top in the hope customers won't notice. However we only sell Ink Jungle refilled ink cartridges which always use XL cartridges with the larger sponges and have produced some images above to help consumers how to tell the difference between a fake 304XL and a real 304XL refilled ink cartridge.
